RESCHEDULED: "Red Sand: Do You Like Movies about Gladiators?"

Classics Thursday, April 2, 2015 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

PLEASE NOTE THE NEW DATE!  John Kelly writes the "John Kelly's Washington" column in The Washington Post. Since joining The Post in 1989, he's been the editor of Weekend, the founding editor of KidsPost and a general assignment reporter in the Metro section. He's a 1984 graduate of the University of Maryland College Park, where he majored in English. John has done journalism fellowships at Harvard and Oxford, where he studied, respectively, civic engagement and citizen journalism. He lives in Silver Spring with his wife, Ruth, a 1982 Maryland grad. His Monkees cover band, the Stepping Stones, won the 2012 Journopalooza battle of the bands.

In his lecture John Kelly will explore the explosion of gladiator-themed movies that occurred in the 1960s and examine what those films can tell us about the human condition.
