Barrenechea receives Loeb Grant
Professor Francisco Barrenechea (Classics) has received a grant from the Loeb Classical Library Foundation, which is part of Harvard University. This prestigious and competitive award is open to faculty in the field of classics at institutions of higher learning worldwide. The foundation was established by a bequest of James Loeb to Harvard in 1933, who indicated in his will that part of the income of the distinguished Loeb Classical Library, which he founded and also bequeathed to Harvard, be employed to support research and publication in the area of classical studies. Prof. Barrenechea will use this award to complete his current book project on the role of ancient comedy in the religious life of its time.
Prof. Barrenechea also works on the reception of classical tragedy in modern Mexico. His article, "Tragic impostures: Greek tragedy and pre-Hispanic myth" has just been published in the Classical Receptions Journal.
