News from recent MA grad Rachel Mullervy

Travels abroad and GRID presentation

During spring break, Rachel Mullervy and classmate Rian Sirkus accompanied Professor Lillian Doherty on her Classical Mythology in Paris course as teaching assistants. During the week in Paris we explored Classics in Paris and Classical influences on Parisian architecture and art.

At GRID, the UMCP graduate student research conference this spring, Rachel presented a paper on  “Values in Livy’s Ab Urbe Condita: The Necessity of Chastity and Discipline,” which she began in the summer of 2013 under the direction of Professor Arthur Eckstein of History.  This paper investigates the motive and purpose behind Livy’s emphasis on chastity and self-discipline in his narrative. This past semester Rachel was invited to join Phi Kappa Phi and was honored on May 14 with the department's Distinguished Graduate Student Teacher award.
