Professor Polyvia Parara was the keynote speaker at the Greek Letters Day Celebration on Saturday, January 28, 2017, organized by the Hellenic Society Prometheas at the St. George Greek Orthodox church.
The title of her lecture was "The Ten Unique Features of the Greek Language." Thirty five centuries of written tradition and at least forty centuries of continuous oral tradition have contributed to making the Greek language the only language in the world that since antiquity has been uninterruptedly used by the same people: the Greeks in the Greek world. From Homer to the present, the Greek language has been "the product of the osmosis of old and new, learned and popular spoken and written," enhanced and evolved by the continuity and the unity of Hellenism.
