WELCOME ASSISTANT PROFESSOR ADLER

July 01, 2013 Classics

Eric Adler will be joining the classics faculty as a tenure-track assistant professor.

Dr. Eric Adler will be joining our faculty in the fall as a tenure-track Assistant Professor.

Adler is a specialist in Latin prose; his interests include Greco-Roman historiography, Roman imperialism and societal self-criticism and classical studies and the liberal arts tradition in America.

He is currently working on, inter alia, a book tentatively titled "Classics and the Culture Wars." It examines the ways in which the academic feuds of the 1980s and 1990s changed the study and teaching of Greco-Roman antiquity in America.

Adler received his bachelor's degree from Connecticut College, his master's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his doctorate from Duke University. Prior to his appointment at the University of Maryland, he taught at Rice University, the University of Minnesota and Connecticut College.
