Internships

Exciting internship opportunities are available for Classics students in the Washington area and beyond. As we become aware of more options, we will add them to this page.

Opportunities specific to Classics:

A number of internships for undergraduates are offered annually through the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, D.C., which is affiliated with Harvard University. Since it is a research center for the study of ancient Greek literature, history, and culture, some knowledge of ancient Greek is desirable: https://chs.harvard.edu/CHS/article/display/5397?menuId=153

Internships for majors in ARHU:

The College of Arts & Humanities maintains a page with information specific to students in ARHU: http://www.arhu.umd.edu/undergraduate/getinvolved/internships

General information on internships for all UMD students:

The Office of Undergraduate Studies maintains a useful website on internship offerings and credit options: http://www.internships.umd.edu/.

The Career Center also offers students vital help with interviews, resumes, great networking opportunities, and job fairs. This is a great first contact for students interested in internships: http://www.careers.umd.edu/home.cfm.

Internships at the Smithsonian:

To apply for the General Smithsonian Internship Pool, go to

http://smithsonianofi.com/internship-opportunities/general-smithsonian-internship-pool/

From there, you can explore more specific opportunities, but it's always a good idea to apply to the general pool as well, since Smithsonian units may recruit students from that if they have a need for someone with particular background or expertise.

Internships at other museums in DC

In addition to many opportunities at the Smithsonian, other museums in DC offer internships and volunteer opportunities.
