The faculty of the Classics Department are very pleased and proud to announce that William Soergel, a double major in Classics and History, has been chosen to receive one of the 2016-17 Dean’s Senior Scholar Awards in the College of Arts and Humanities.  In addition to his fine academic record, Soergel was cited for his many contributions to the campus community, including his leadership in the Classics Club, the Lavender Leadership Honors Society, and the discussion and support group Bisexuals at Maryland.  He was recently asked by Associate Dean Daryle Williams to serve on the President’s Commission on LGBT Issues, and was invited to attend a Bisexual Awareness Week briefing at the White House by the Executive Office of President Barack Obama.  (Since he is also our media assistant, I should add that he is not responsible for this announcement!)
