On March 8, fourteen new members were initiated into the campus chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, the national Classics honor society.  In addition to six regular members (current undergraduate students), the initiates included five associate members (students in graduate courses) and three honorary members (who excel in the study of Latin or Greek but are not currently seeking degrees).  The national society was founded in 1914 and the campus chapter in 1994.  The traditional initiation ceremony, conducted by current members, includes words of wisdom adapted from the works of ancient authors:  Homer, Sappho, Plato, Cornelia (mother of the Gracchi), and Vergil.
