Recent Events: 7th Modern Greek Studies Conference

The 7th Modern Greek Studies conference took place this Saturday, May 6.

The UMD Department of Classics held its 7th Modern Greek Studies Conference on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Faculty and students of the Modern Greek Studies program presented papers on the Hellenism of Asia Minor from antiquity to 1923 to mark the centenary of the Treaty of Lausanne. The folk music ensemble of Spyros Koliavasilis and the soloist Maria Anastasi-Paschalidou offered musical intervals with Asia Minor music and songs.

The audience was very appreciative of the event and the work of the UMD Modern Greek Studies Program. The Q & A session was very lively: audience members contributed to the topic and shared valuable testimonials of Asia Minor refugees.

A dinner reception concluded the event.
