Live AIA Webinar: Dr. Alba Mazza to Give a Lecture on the Lost Landscapes of Sicily

Dr. Alba Mazza will deliver a lecture entitled "Lost Landscapes of Sicily: Submerged Cities and Ancient Shorelines from Prehistory to the Roman Period," in an live webinar on Tuesday, April 12, at 7 pm.

With more than 18 years of fieldwork experience in the Mediterranean, Mazza obtained her Ph.D. in 2017 from the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on submerged settlements and human-environment interaction in the coastal zone. Her work also focuses on prehistoric seafaring and commercial navigation during Classical antiquity in Sicily. Mazza currently works as a Senior Archaeologist at the Partnership and Innovation Underwater team of the U.S. Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) Henry M. Jackson  Fundation.

The lecture is organized by the Washington D.C. Society of the Archaeological Institute of America, and co-sponsored and co-hosted by the University of Maryland's Department of Classics and Department of Art History and Archaeology.
