Alumna contributes chapter to new online book

UMD Classics Alumna Angelina Wong (B.A. 2013) is currently working on a Masters of Library and Information Science at UMD, with a specialization in Archives & Preservation. She hopes to eventually work as a music librarian. She is especially interested in ancient music and hopes someday to create an open access database of ancient music resources. She recently contributed her own chapter to a published book--congratulations, Angelina! A short summary of the book and her contribution is below.

Collaboration, Empathy, and Change is a collaborative effort by students in the Achieving Organizational Excellence course offered at the University of Maryland and various information leaders across the United States.  Each chapter analyzes a different leader’s approach to managing organizations. For example, my contribution to the book is one of four chapters that discuss management practices in archives and special collections.  Other sections include approaches to academic libraries, federal libraries, museums, and the future of library organizations.  Despite the broadness of the field, there is an underlying theme of utilizing the humanities in library and information science organizations.  The knowledge students and leaders have contributed to this book, however, is not (and should not be) limited to the library field.  The information here can enhance any group.  In other words, one does not need to be a librarian to use this content.  Just as information science pervades all disciplines, the intention of Collaboration, Empathy, and Change is to provide anyone with perspective on the components of organizations in general.
