Congratulations to this year's graduates in Classics!

This year the Department of Classics awarded degrees to six undergraduate and two graduate students.

On May 21, the Department of Classics proudly announced the graduation of six undergraduates and two graduate students. 

Meet our newest alumni:

M.A. graduates 2020- 2021:

William Linney

Bill Linney was a member of the U.S. Army Band from 1998 to 2019 and studied Classics and history at George Mason University before coming to UMD. The author of award-winning language textbooks for homeschoolers, he will be returning to George Mason next fall for a Masters in History.

Erik Roodzant

Erik earned a B.A. from Stanford and a Post-Baccalaureate certificate from Georgetown University before coming to Maryland for his M.A. He aspires to a career teaching Classics and has made a strong start as one of our teaching assistants for the past two years.

Peter Apostolaros

Peter traces his ancestry to Greece (the island of Lemnos) and is particularly passionate about the archaeological side of Classics. He has already excavated at Argilos in northern Greece and will be taking part in a dig this summer at the Cretan site of Mochlos. Next fall he plans to apply to graduate programs in Classics.

Monica Gillispie

A double degree recipient in Classics and Psychology, Monica chose the major track in Greek and Latin and also earned an Honors College citation in Honors Humanities. She plans a career in counseling for children and will be entering the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C. next fall.

Alex Holian (December 2020)

Alex has special memories of his study abroad experience in Italy with Prof. Cris Corrado and is very proud of having completed three semesters of ancient Greek with Prof. Gregory Bucher. Upon graduation in December Alex was hired as the site supervisor for the Department of Public Safety at Harford Community College, where he began his collegiate studies.

Isabel Knudson

While earning a double degree in Classics and Psychology, Isabel found time to serve as the Department’s Digital Communications assistant for the past two years and as president of the Classics Club in 2020-21. She plans a long-awaited trip to Europe next spring before continuing her classical studies with the aim of becoming a Latin teacher.

Anastazja Kolodziej, cum laude

Anastazja has earned a double degree in Classics and Journalism along with a certificate in Honors Humanities. She will begin her career in journalism by interning with the Richmond Times-Dispatch this summer. Anastazja’s Latin teacher at Walter Johnson High School, Ms. Karen Generose, was an M.A. graduate of our program!

Meghan Lockwood

A major in our Latin and Greek track, Meghan plans to go on in the field and will be starting a Masters program in Classics at Florida State University in the fall. As a research assistant in the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities her junior year, she built and published an interactive critical edition of a selection from Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

Kate Medwar-Vanderlinden

Kate is graduating magna cum laude in BSOS with a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice, with Classics as her second major and with a minor in History. She will be working in a law firm after graduation and applying to law schools in the fall. She says she expects to apply everything she’s learned in Classics to her legal career.

In December 2020, Kevin Brocato received a B.A. in Classics, and Wayne Keysor and Michael Kubik earned Masters degrees.

Sky Erickson will be graduating in August with a major in Classical Humanities and a minor in Classical Mythology.
