Prof. Francisco Barrenechea Participated in London Conference on Greek Drama

Prof. Barrenechea spoke about Greek tragedy in the Spanish Empire at a conference in University College London

Dr. Barrenechea participated in the conference Translating Ancient Greek Drama (1600-1800), organized by Giovanna di Martino and Cécile Dudouyt (pictured above), at University College London on June 24, 2022. His paper, entitled "Savage Antiquities: Vicente García de la Huerta and the Discussions of Greek Tragedy in the 18th-century Spanish Empire," discussed how enlightened intellectuals on both sides of the Atlantic adapted the ancient genre, which they found admirable but also barbarous and repugnant, to contemporary taste.
