Seven New Members Enrolled in Eta Sigma Phi

The UMD chapter of the national Classics honor society Eta Sigma Phi, inducted seven new members

Chapter Zeta Nu, the UMD chapter of the national Classics honor society Eta Sigma Phi, inducted seven new members on Thursday, March 10. 

 

The four new undergraduate members are Mackense Greico, Glen Higgs, Cailin Howe, and Molly Williams. Chelsea Stolt, who holds an M.A. in Education from UMD and is a graduate student in Classics, became an associate member. Two friends of the classics were invited to honorary membership: Ms. Karen Fisher-Nguyen, who has excelled in Latin as a Golden ID student, and Ms. Mary Ann Staley, a beloved teacher who taught Latin for many years at UMD and at several high schools in Howard County.

 

Eta Sigma Phi was founded in 1914 at the University of Chicago and became national in 1924; chapter Zeta Nu was established in 1994. Students who reach the 300 level in either Latin or ancient Greek with a B+ average are invited to membership.
